How to Choose the Right Goldendoodle Puppy | Dacus Doodles

How We Help Families Choose the Right Goldendoodle Puppy

Choosing a Goldendoodle Puppy Is About More Than Looks

One of the most common questions we hear is:

"Which puppy should I choose?"

It's an exciting decision, and while it's easy to fall in love with a certain coat color or adorable face, we encourage families to look beyond appearance.

The right puppy is the one whose temperament and personality fit your family's lifestyle.

That's why we use professional temperament evaluations to help guide the selection process.

Every Puppy Is an Individual

Just like people, every puppy has a unique personality.

Some puppies are naturally adventurous.

Others are more thoughtful and observant.

Some love being the center of attention, while others are content curling up beside you.

None of these personalities are "better" than another. They're simply different, and finding the right fit is one of the most important parts of bringing home a new puppy.

Professional Temperament Evaluations

Around seven weeks of age, every Dacus Doodles puppy completes a professional temperament evaluation.

These evaluations give us valuable insight into each puppy's:

  • Confidence
  • Energy level
  • Recovery from new experiences
  • Social engagement
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Human focus
  • Overall personality

This evaluation isn't about finding the "best" puppy.

It's about helping families understand who each puppy is.

The Love Letter

After the evaluations are complete, our evaluator writes what we affectionately call a Love Letter for every puppy.

The Love Letter describes each puppy's personality, strengths, and temperament in a way families can easily understand.

Many of our puppy parents tell us this is one of their favorite parts of the process because it allows them to get to know each puppy before making their decision.

How Pet Families Choose Their Puppy

Families choosing a companion puppy select in reservation order.

Rather than telling families which puppy they must take, we provide each family's evaluator Love Letters and temperament information to help them make an informed decision.

Our goal is to educate and guide, allowing families to choose the puppy they feel is the best fit for their home and lifestyle.

How Service Dog Prospects Are Selected

Service dog prospects follow a different process.

Because service work requires very specific temperament traits, these puppies are selected through a collaborative process between our professional evaluator and the family's trainer.

The evaluator and trainer work together to identify the puppy whose temperament is best suited for the future handler's individual needs.

This decision is not made by Dacus Doodles or by the future handler, helping give each service team the greatest opportunity for long-term success.

Our Goal

Whether you're searching for a family companion, therapy prospect, or future service dog, our goal is the same:

To help every puppy find the home where they can thrive.

We believe thoughtful guidance, professional evaluations, and educating our families lead to happier puppies and happier people.
