Goldendoodle Generations

🐾 Understanding Goldendoodle Generations: F1, F1B, Multigen & More! 🐾

At Dacus Doodles, we get lots of questions about Goldendoodle generations — and what all those letters, numbers, and percentages really mean. Whether you’re new to the doodle world or just curious about what makes your pup unique, we’re here to help you decode it all!

🧬 Goldendoodle Generations 101

Here’s a quick breakdown of the most common generations:

F1
Poodle × Golden Retriever
This is the first generation of Goldendoodles, often with a more varied coat type.

F1B
F1 Goldendoodle × Poodle (or Golden Retriever)
B stands for "backcross," meaning one parent is a purebred again. Typically results in curlier, lower-shedding coats.

Multigenerational (Multigen)
Any Goldendoodle bred beyond F1B, including combinations like:

  • Goldendoodle × Poodle

  • Goldendoodle × Golden Retriever

  • Goldendoodle × Goldendoodle

At Dacus Doodles, we focus primarily on Multigenerational Goldendoodles. This allows us to produce puppies with better consistency in coat, temperament, and structure while still maintaining that sweet Golden Retriever personality and Poodle smarts.

💛 Why It Matters

While generation doesn’t determine everything, it does help us predict coat types, shedding levels, and some personality traits. Our goal is always the same — to raise healthy, well-rounded doodles who make the best companions.
